Evolution and extinction, adaptation and climate change “It is not the strongest of species which survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change.” Charles Darwin What kind of responsiveness is necessary for human survival? What are the scenarios that face us and can we plausibly adapt? Do we have a responsibility to other species’ welfare in an environment that we have shaped?
Join compere Jennifer Byrne and a panel of experts including Clive Hamilton (social commentator and author), Prof Hugh Possingham (Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists) and Nicole Kuepper (Eureka Prize winner) for an evening of lively discussion and debate to celebrate Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday. Dinner conversation will revolve around scientific and social issues including human adaptability, responsiveness to climate change and sustainable technologies and policies.
This event is a partnership between the Botanic Gardens Trust and the Australian Museum, and is our first in a dynamic year-long program of celebrations honouring Charles Darwin and his living legacy.
