Workshop: Metamorphosis: origins and ancestors

September 2009

Various locations including Yirrkala Community

A Nomad Art project proposed for September 2009 which will focus on cross-cultural and interdisciplinary responses to Charles Darwin's On the Origin of the Species.

Funding to scope Metamorphosis has been received from NT Research and Innovation Fund and Australian artists, including Judy Watson, Fiona Hall and John Wolesley, have been invited to participate in a workshop with artists from Buku Larrnggay Mulka at Yirrkala in Arnhem Land.

Artists will gather in Darwin between 22-24 September for the Charles Darwin Symposium, and then travel to Yirrkala Community to spend time in the bush with Traditional Owners and environmental scientists, and work at the Art Centre (print workshop).

The idea of Metamorphosis is to look at different cultural views and observations of the natural world, origins and change.
